Kamikazee fever

Any music loving Filipino young and old will be sure to know of a wildly popular local band named Kamikazee. These guys are obviously not your typical clean cut boy band types but their music appears to appeal to people ages 3 to 38. I should know because my third kid out of four children Francis Joshua, is only 3 & ½ years old and sings ‘Narda’ (the band’s anthem like single and biggest hit so far) like a hundred times in a day. Why at least 38? Because I’m 38 and I sing it at least a hundred times in a day too. In a nutshell, Kamikazee rocks!

By the way, for the unfamiliar, Narda is the alter-ego of Darna, a local super heroine. She’s like the local counterpart of Wonder Woman and also came originally from comic books and eventually found her way to the movies and TV. The song tells of the desperate attempts of a fanatical admirer skeptically hoping to capture her heart if not at least her attention.

I played the song ‘Narda’ during the break time of our most recent Kids for Christ (KFC) Cluster Kids Day and lo and behold! Most of the noisy and non-attentive children from roughly ages 9 to 13 all came near the alter of the chapel where we were in and started singing in unison. Deep inside, I knew it was a good gathering song though it didn’t talk about God. I hope we could develop songs with such magnetic properties for the kids as a medium for them to know Him better. Everybody seems to need a hero. In my book of heroes, Christ ranks No 1!
